Having a disorganized fridge is a waste of money and food. With a messy fridge, the food is shoved in places you can’t spot, which means that some will be spoiled and tossed in the trash. Additionally, having spoiled food is a welcoming invitation for bacteria to live in your fridge! A disarrayed fridge consumes a lot of your time during meal preparation and grocery listing as well.

Why make your fridge a mystery chamber, where the items are hidden?

Here are simple tips to organize your fridge:

Store the food in their proper spot

Different foods must be stored in different spots according to their spoilage rate.

Bottom Shelf: For raw meat, fish, and poultry. These foods get spoiled fast, thus requiring a very cold temperature that the bottom shelf has.

Middle Shelf: For cooked food (leftovers), packaged food, salads, and dairy (milk, cheese, eggs, etc.) These foods aren’t quick to spoil but they still require a consistent cold temperature.

Drawers: Usually the drawers are located at the bottom of the fridge. This is where fruits and veggies should be stored where they require the coldest temperature, as they are prone to rotting.

Door: The fridge’s door is the warmest part of the fridge, meaning that the slow-spoilage  foods go there, such as condiments (ketchup, mustard, salsa, spices, etc.)

Group items in containers

Group items in clear containers that you can easily see through. For example, store your jams in a container, the yogurts in another, and the processed meat in another. This way, you’ll reach them out easier and the rows will remain neat.

Create an “Eat Me First” Basket

Have a slice of cheese nearing its expiration date? Toss it in the basket.

Toss the food nearing their expiration date in the “Eat Me First” Basket to limit wasting food.

Maintain the order!

Like our bedrooms, fridges are prone to getting cluttered again within a week. Make sure to label the shelves and drawers of your fridge corresponding to the foods placement, this helps to program your hands to organize everything in place.

It is likely among most households to have a fridge with spoiled food. Before having your fridge undergo a makeover using our simple tips, it should be cleaned first.
